Membership Information

Membership Types:

Annual membership in the Fire Marshals Association of Oklahoma runs from August to August. A majority of members pay dues by attending the August Annual Conference.

Regular Membership:

Any full-time salaried government or volunteer fire service official with statutory responsibility for the prevention of fires through the enforcement of laws or regulations, property inspection, fire safety education or the investigation of fires.

Associate Membership:

Any part-time or non-salaried legally designated officials of a county, municipality or quasi-municipality authorized and obligated by public law or lawful ordinance with the duty of fire prevention through property inspection, enforcement of fire, laws and regulations and public education, or who may be charged with the duty of investigating the cause and origin of fires. Associate member also includes any person who was previously a regular member but cannot now qualify due to change in assignment or retirement.

The individual motivated to support the objectives and technical programs of the Fire Marshals Association of Oklahoma or otherwise prompted to benefit by and contribute to the work of the Fire Marshals Association of Oklahoma, shall be eligible to become an Associate Member.

Associate Members shall enjoy membership privileges as determined from time-to-time by the Board of Trustees of the Fire Marshals Association of Oklahoma. Associate Members shall not hold an elective office nor vote in the affairs of the association.

Honorary Life Membership:

Honorary Life Membership may be conferred upon any member of the Fire Marshals Association of Oklahoma retiring after ten (10) or more years of service as a state, county or municipal fire marshal, and who has rendered outstanding service to the Association; and to any other persons who have distinguished themselves by outstanding service in the fields of fire investigation or fire prevention and by exceptional service to the Association.

Fire Marshals Association Annual Awards Nominations:

The Fire Marshals Association of Oklahoma is soliciting nominations for the Fire Marshal of the Year and Code Official of the Year awards to be presented at the Annual Conference in August. These awards are for outstanding service to the community in which the nominee serves and for the example set by ensuring a fire safe Oklahoma.

All nominations will be reviewed by the FMAO board for final selection. All nominees will receive a control number prior to the board’s evaluation and selection. Board members shall not be eligible for nomination while serving on the FMAO Board.

Attributes Sought for Recipients:

  • Fire Marshal of the Year
    • Attributes for Qualification:
      • A fire marshal or officer/employee of any federal, state, municipal, county or special fire district/department within the State of Oklahoma whose duties include fire prevention, life safety or community risk reduction, code enforcement or fire investigations.
      • Nominees shall be selected for verified outstanding accomplishments and/or actions that serve as a model for other fire marshals to emulate while demonstrating integrity, professionalism, and dedication to public service in the interest of public safety.
    • Code Official of the Year
      • Attributes for Qualification:
        • An employee of any federal, state, municipal, county, or special fire district/department within the State of Oklahoma whose duties include fire prevention, code enforcement, building administration or code development.
        • Nominees shall be selected for verified outstanding accomplishments and or actions that serve/raise the awareness of accomplishments by code personnel that improve public safety in the built environment while demonstrating exceptional leadership and longstanding dedication of building safety.
